Uganda’s journey toward digital transformation in education holds immense promise, yet severe structural barriers threaten to exclude rural learners from the benefits of modern technology.
While urban centers witness a rapid rollout of digital learning platforms, classrooms in remote districts continue to grapple with unreliable electricity, lack of internet infrastructure, and scarce computing devices.
Experts note that closing this growing digital divide requires more than just introducing hardware into schools. Policymakers must adopt adaptable, inclusive frameworks that address the unique challenges faced by marginalized communities.
Reflecting on the pressing need for strategic adaptability in the education sector, Prof. Mpezamihigo stated, “The take-home message is that we must be remarkably agile.”
Without intentional interventions, the push for educational technology risks widening the inequality gap between urban elites and rural students.
