Uganda Airlines has officially launched four weekly flights connecting Entebbe International Airport to the Ghanaian capital of Accra. The new route serves as a strategic bridge between East and West Africa, catering to both business and leisure travellers while enhancing regional aviation connectivity.

While the service links the two capitals, flights will make a stop in Lagos, Nigeria, before proceeding to Accra. The carrier is utilizing a Boeing 737-800 wet-leased from Ethiopian Airlines to operate the route, providing passengers with an alternative to existing connections through Nairobi and Addis Ababa.

During the launch, Works and Transport Minister Fred Byamukama noted that historical air connectivity gaps have long hindered Africa’s economic integration. Improved flight links are expected to ease the movement of people and foster stronger commercial and diplomatic ties between Uganda and Ghana.

Acting Chief Executive Officer Girma Wake explained that the airline is actively reorganising its schedules to link regional routes with long-haul destinations like London, Mumbai, and Dubai. This approach allows incoming international passengers to seamlessly access various African markets through the Entebbe hub.

Finance Minister Amos Lugoloobi highlighted that Uganda Airlines now commands approximately 30 percent of air traffic at Entebbe. He emphasized that the national carrier’s growth directly supports the government’s broader economic aspirations by stimulating exports, productivity, and investment.

As the airline works toward long-term commercial sustainability, the success of the Accra route will depend on consistent passenger demand and strong trade exchanges across the continent. Read the full story on Nile Post.
