Two businessmen have been remanded to prison following their appearance in court over allegations of forging documents to alter the leadership of an association representing carrot traders, truck owners, and drivers in Kampala.

Ezra Watuwa, 39, and Moses Wamakale Waneroba, 51, appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Winnie Nankya Jatiko at the Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court. The accused individuals denied the charges brought against them. The presiding magistrate ordered them to be remanded until November 9, when the court will hear their formal bail application.

According to the prosecution’s charge sheet, the accused are facing multiple counts including forgery and uttering false documents. Investigators allege that on July 1, 2026, at Biraj Hotel in Kampala, the suspects and others still at large forged an ordinary resolution for the Kampala Carrot Importers, Truck Owners and Drivers Development Association Limited (KACITODDA). The disputed document allegedly bore a forged signature purporting to belong to Sowedi Tebandeke, a member of the association.

A second count states that on July 23, 2026, the suspects fraudulently presented the forged resolution to the Uganda Registration Services Bureau (URSB). Tebandeke, who operates as a carrot trader at Nakasero Market, stated that KACITODDA was originally established in 2018 with 15 registered directors. He served as the vice-chairperson before discovering in 2025 that leadership changes had purportedly been effected without his consent.

Tebandeke grew suspicious after examining the company documents and discovering a signature attributed to him that he never signed. He subsequently reported the matter to authorities, alleging that the newly instituted directors were unlawfully collecting money from carrot dealers at the market under the association’s banner.
