One Dead, 25 Rescued After Building Collapses at Brother Ronnie's Church in Wakiso

Tragedy struck on Monday, October 26, 2026, when a building under construction collapsed at the Holy City Church premises in Bwerenga, Kawuku, Wakiso District. The church is led by prominent pastor Brother Ronnie Makabai.

Kampala Metropolitan Police confirmed that one person, a builder identified as Francis Lukwago, lost his life in the disaster. Emergency response teams swiftly arrived at the scene and successfully pulled 25 adult males alive from the heavy debris.

The injured survivors were rushed to medical facilities for urgent treatment, including Mulago National Referral Hospital and Entebbe Grade B Hospital. One of the survivors recounted harrowing moments, explaining how taking cover under a metallic stage saved his life when the structure gave way.

Following the incident, security around the church premises was heavily reinforced. Military and police personnel have cordoned off the area, treating it as an active crime scene to facilitate ongoing search and rescue efforts, as well as preliminary investigations.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Rachael Kawala urged the public to remain calm and patient as emergency teams and structural engineers work around the clock to ascertain if anyone else remains trapped under the rubble. Investigations into the exact cause of the structural failure are currently underway.
