The Ugandan government has stepped up pressure on the contractor handling the Shs1.2 billion Kasawo–Seeta Namuganga road in Mukono District after progress stalled at roughly 15 percent. The Ministry of Works and Transport stepped in to reassure frustrated residents and motorists that the critical infrastructure project will ultimately be completed, despite missing key early milestones.
Awarded to Jefflen Industrial Solutions Ltd in May, the project has faced a series of setbacks including severe equipment breakdowns, difficulties in sourcing approved fill materials for swampy terrain, and heavy rains. The delays pushed critical swamp section works into the rainy season, leaving locals and traders struggling to cross River Matumbwe and sparking complaints about worsening local flooding.
Mr Emmanuel Ainebyoona, senior communications officer at the ministry, stated that officials are closely monitoring the situation and have instructed the contractor to provide a detailed recovery plan. Despite local leaders expressing deep frustration over the sluggish pace and alleged shoddy work, the site engineer for Jefflen Industrial Solutions Ltd, Mr Benjamin M. Webooya, maintained that operations are actively ongoing to meet the scheduled April 2027 deadline.
