Gen Muhoozi Elevates Brig Munanura to Major General and Names Him UPDF Intelligence Chief

In a recent military shakeup, the Chief of Defence Forces, Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has elevated Brig Oscar Munanura to the rank of acting Major General. Alongside his promotion, Munanura has been appointed as the new Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security (CDIS) for the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

The changes within the military leadership were made public on Tuesday through an official statement issued by Col Chris Magezi, the Acting Director of Defence Public Information at the Ministry of Defence and Veteran Affairs.

Prior to this new role, Maj Gen Munanura served as the Deputy CDIS. In his new capacity, he steps into the position previously held by Maj Gen Richard Otto. According to the military announcement, Maj Gen Otto has now been seconded to the Joint Staff Human Resource Management to await redeployment.

While the appointments and promotions have been officially announced by the military command, they remain subject to final approval by President Yoweri Museveni, who serves as the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces.

The UPDF leadership has extended its congratulations to Maj Gen Munanura on his elevation and new responsibilities. At the same time, the military commended Maj Gen Otto for his dedicated service during his tenure as the intelligence chief, wishing both senior officers success in their respective deployments.
