The Ugandan government has greenlit the allocation of six additional acres of land to the United Nations Regional Service Centre located in Entebbe. The approval aims to accommodate the growing operational footprint of the facility as it absorbs more administrative duties from across the global UN network.

Originally established in 2010, the Entebbe facility delivers crucial financial, human resources, logistics, and IT support to various UN missions. The fresh land allocation comes after the existing 20-acre facility reached full capacity. The expansion follows recent transitions, including the absorption of functions previously managed by the Kuwait Joint Support Office.

Government officials note that hosting the expanded UN operations brings significant economic advantages to Uganda. Current estimates indicate that staff expenditures inject roughly $40 million into the local economy every year, with local procurement adding another $33 million. Furthermore, the Entebbe office is slated to operate as the largest travel ticketing hub within the entire UN system.

Local authorities anticipate that the physical expansion will stimulate further demand for local goods, hospitality, transport, and professional services. By strengthening its partnership with international bodies, Uganda continues to solidify its strategic role as a premier destination for global diplomatic and administrative operations.
