The Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) has issued a stern warning to Senior Four candidates, urging them to maintain utmost discipline as the Uganda Certificate of Education (UCE) examinations enter their final week.
Speaking to the press, UNEB Spokesperson Jennifer Kalule noted that some students tend to become unruly, violent, or rebellious as they approach the finish line of their secondary education assessment. Kalule emphasized that school rules and regulations remain binding until all papers are officially completed and candidates have left the school premises.
Highlighting recent challenges, Kalule pointed to an incident from the previous week where a headteacher withheld the identity cards of several candidates over disciplinary issues, almost locking them out of their papers. Prompt intervention by the examinations board ensured that the affected learners sat for their assessments. UNEB reiterated that it does not condone acts of indiscipline that jeopardize candidates’ futures.
The 2026 UCE examinations, which commenced on October 12 with Mathematics and Chemistry, are scheduled to conclude on November 3 with foreign languages such as French, German, and Arabic. Over 503,000 candidates registered for this year’s exams, representing the third cohort assessed under the Competence-Based Curriculum.
Meanwhile, national examination schedules are shifting to other levels. Primary Leaving Examination (PLE) candidates are slated for their briefing on October 30, while Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) candidates will receive their briefings on November 6. UNEB has advised school administrators to handle pre-briefing dedications efficiently to avoid unnecessary congestion on school grounds.
