Ugandan health authorities have launched an investigation to determine if a woman who recently tested positive for Ebola in Nigeria had contact with individuals linked to the Democratic Republic of Congo outbreak during a stay in Kampala.

The patient, a Ugandan-born woman and the wife of a Swiss diplomat based in Abuja, was medically evacuated to Switzerland on Monday following an improvement in her clinical condition, according to Nigeria’s health minister.

Despite the ongoing probe into her travel history and potential exposures in Kampala, the Ministry of Health has assured the public that Uganda remains officially Ebola-free. Government officials confirmed that no active or confirmed cases have been recorded since the previous Bundibugyo virus outbreak was declared over in late July 2026.

In response to the incident, health authorities have heightened border screenings and reinstated locator forms for travelers. Additionally, the government announced plans to enforce a 21-day quarantine for returning citizens with a recent travel history to the DR Congo as a precautionary measure against potential cross-border transmission.

Medical experts remind the public that Ebola symptoms typically include a high fever, fatigue, chest pain, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, joint and body aches, rashes, and unexplained bleeding. Citizens are urged to remain calm while health surveillance teams track potential contacts and monitor border points closely.
