State Minister for Local Government Balaam Barugahara has directed the interdiction of 29 officials from Kisoro District and Kisoro Municipality. The directive targets 25 district employees and four municipal workers over serious allegations of corruption, nepotism, abuse of office, and the mismanagement of public funds.

The directive follows an anti-corruption tour conducted by Minister Balaam in the region. During public engagements, including a rally at Shaza Playground, the minister expressed deep concern over the misuse of public resources, poorly implemented government projects, and widespread irregularities in recruitment processes.

To ensure thorough investigations without interference from suspected individuals, the affected personnel have been instructed to step aside. The State House Anti-Corruption Unit and other relevant agencies are expected to spearhead the ongoing inquiries into the conduct of the officials.

Among the notable figures ordered to vacate their positions are Chief Administrative Officer John Nyakahuma, District Engineer James Karamire, District Education Officer Emmanuel Mwumvaneza, and Principal Human Resource Officer Beatrice Komugisha.

In addition to interdictions, several arrests have been ordered. Herbert Ngabo Bubasha, the district’s Parish Development Model focal person, faces arrest over failing to account for funds meant for beneficiaries. Former Northern Division Mayor Michael Bazamanza and former Central Division Chairperson Ramathan Ndikuyeze have also been targeted for arrest over the alleged embezzlement of Emyooga SACCO funds. Furthermore, local leaders including district councillor John Mfitumukiza were apprehended over allegations involving the sale of government jobs.

Authorities emphasize that these interdictions and arrests are meant to facilitate unhindered investigations, and the claims against the suspects have not yet been formally established by a court of law.
