In a decisive move to tackle the rising tide of joblessness, the National Muslim Youth Council (NMYC) is set to launch a comprehensive youth skilling and employment initiative. The program is designed to equip young Muslims with vital vocational and entrepreneurship expertise, ultimately fostering self-reliance and community development.

Speaking on television, NMYC representative Habibu Mustapha emphasized that youth unemployment remains a pressing crisis within Muslim communities. He noted that this economic vulnerability not only stifles individual potential but also feeds into rising crime rates. By introducing practical training, the council aims to transition young people from traditional job seekers into innovative job creators.

The broader strategy involves establishing specialized skilling hubs across Uganda’s ten distinct Muslim regions. These centers will focus on market-driven disciplines, ensuring that graduates possess the exact tools needed to thrive in the modern economy.

The official rollout is slated for October 29 at Kampala’s Kololo Airstrip. Attendees can look forward to an expansive expo highlighting youth-led enterprises, agricultural innovations, farming demonstrations, and a complimentary medical camp.

Organizers are extending an open invitation to religious leaders, government representatives, development partners, and young people from every corner of the country. While the initiative holds immense promise, its long-term success will heavily rely on consistent funding, relevant curricula, and strong partnerships with the private sector.
