The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has called upon Muslim districts across the country to replicate the remarkable development achievements witnessed in Wakiso Muslim District. Speaking at a vibrant ceremony held at Rahman Mosque in Nansana Municipality, the Mufti commended the local leadership for fostering unity, reinforcing Islamic institutions, and actively championing community advancement.

He specifically praised Wakiso District Kadhi, Sheikh Erias Kigozi, noting that the region’s steady progress embodies the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council’s (UMSC) core vision of community transformation through accountable leadership and self-reliance. The gathering drew a massive crowd of Muslim leaders, government officials, students, and worshippers who had assembled to mark the birth of Prophet Muhammad and offer special prayers for students preparing for national examinations.

A central highlight of the event was the presentation of a posthumous presidential award to the family of the late Sheikh Ibrahim Nkangi, the former long-serving Kadhi of West Buganda Muslim District. Conferred by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, the honor recognized Sheikh Nkangi’s profound contributions to Islam and his dedication to mobilizing Muslims for government development initiatives. Interestingly, Sheikh Nkangi was the grandfather of the current Wakiso Kadhi, drawing warm praise from the Mufti regarding the continuation of exemplary leadership within the family.

Echoing similar sentiments, UMSC Secretary General Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi emphasized that Wakiso’s milestones directly support the implementation of the UMSC’s Ten-Year Strategic Development Plan. The strategic plan is designed to uplift the welfare of Muslim communities nationwide by strengthening grassroots infrastructure and institutional governance.

The ceremony also celebrated human capital development by awarding certificates to mosque imams and women leaders who completed specialized short refresher courses at Namasuba College of Commerce and Vocational Studies. Sheikh Mubaje lauded the college principal, Dr. Hajj Jamil Ssebalu Kijjambu, for tailoring programs that equip religious figures with essential practical skills. Wrapping up the event, the Mufti urged leaders nationwide to keep education, unity, and sustainable progress at the forefront of their community initiatives.
