Two former military informers standing trial for murder have made another dramatic U-turn, informing the military court that they wish to maintain their guilty pleas.
Hamza Lyavaala and Adiil Walusansa appeared before the General Court Martial, chaired by Brig Richard Tukacungurwa. They confirmed their decision to stick with their earlier confessions, just days after they had attempted to withdraw the guilty pleas.
The accused individuals are facing charges connected to the deaths of two women in incidents described as alleged staged bomb attacks. Their initial change of heart regarding the pleas followed their testimony against their co-accused, Lt Col Ephraim Byaruhanga, who has consistently maintained his innocence and denied all charges brought against him.
The court is now expected to proceed with sentencing following the decision of Lyavaala and Walusansa to uphold their guilty pleas.
