The Katikkiro of Buganda, Charles Peter Mayiga, has heaped praise on Rev. Fr. Edward Kanyike Mayanja for marking 40 years of remarkable priesthood. Alongside his spiritual calling, the priest has been widely recognized for his steadfast commitment to preserving and promoting Ugandan culture and traditions among communities both locally and abroad.

Buganda Kingdom’s Minister for Local Government, Joseph Kawuki, delivered the Katikkiro’s official message during vibrant celebrations held at Kiganywa Village, Busubizi Parish, in Mityana Municipality. The milestone was marked by a thanksgiving Mass that drew various dignitaries, including Bishop Dominic Eyibu of Kotido, fellow religious leaders, as well as representatives from the central government and the Buganda Kingdom.

In his message, Mayiga emphasized that the jubilarian has successfully blended religious service with innovative community initiatives. This unique approach has not only uplifted Ugandans at home but has also kept the diaspora connected to their rich heritage and cultural identity.

During the event, Bishop Eyibu also took the opportunity to commend Fr. Mayanja’s longstanding dedication to the Church. However, the bishop used the platform to shed light on the harsh socioeconomic realities facing vulnerable populations in the Karamoja sub-region, specifically appealing for aid and greater support for communities in Kotido and Moroto.

Reflecting on his four-decade journey, Fr. Mayanja expressed profound gratitude to God for sustaining him through various challenges throughout his ministry. The celebration ultimately served as a powerful testament to the enduring impact of faith leaders in fostering spiritual growth while safeguarding cultural heritage. Read the full story on Nile Post.
