The High Court in Mpigi has nullified the election of Gomba East County Member of Parliament, Godfrey Saazi, ordering a fresh election following a successful petition challenging the January 15 poll results.

Delivering the judgment by email on October 26, 2026, Justice Jamson Karemani Karemera ruled that substantial electoral irregularities had compromised the integrity of the vote. The court found that the omission of results from four polling stations, coupled with the disruption of voting at nine others, amounted to severe non-compliance with established electoral laws.

This legal setback affects Saazi, a member of the National Unity Platform (NUP) who was serving his second term in Parliament. The judge determined that these irregularities were extensive enough to have substantially affected the final outcome of the election, necessitating a return to the ballot box for the constituents of Gomba East.

Electoral authorities are expected to set a date for the upcoming by-election following the court’s decisive ruling.
