The Archbishop of Kampala, Paul Ssemogerere, has issued a strong appeal to Christians to champion peace and reject political violence. Speaking during monumental celebrations marking 60 years of the Kampala Archdiocese, the prelate emphasized that true faith must be actively demonstrated through love and deep respect for fellow human beings.

Highlighting the dangers of electoral malpractices and aggression, Archbishop Ssemogerere shared a sobering account regarding the late former Busiro South MP, Charles Matovu. According to the Archbishop, Mr. Matovu had personally recounted the ordeal of being beaten during recent election campaigns, serving as a grim reminder of the physical and emotional toll political hostility inflicts on society.

The Archbishop questioned how individuals who profess the Christian faith could willingly participate in acts of violence and cause suffering to others. He urged the congregation to become active agents of peace and compassion within their communities, dedicating their resources and hearts to supporting the needy rather than fueling division.

The diamond jubilee celebration served not only as a milestone of religious heritage in the region but also as a timely moral compass for citizens navigating challenging political landscapes. Religious leaders across the country continue to stress the importance of peaceful coexistence as the nation looks ahead to future civic engagements.
