Ugandan health authorities have successfully cleared all 60 individuals who were placed under observation following a potential Ebola exposure linked to a traveller from Kenya. Health Minister Dr Chris Baryomunsi confirmed that every listed contact has officially completed the mandatory 21-day monitoring window without exhibiting any symptoms of the virus.
The monitored group included transportation operators, hotel workers, and personnel at various points of entry and exit who crossed paths with the infected traveller during their time in Uganda. Baryomunsi emphasized that no secondary infections have been detected, and Uganda has maintained its Ebola-free status since officially concluding its previous outbreak in July.
Despite the positive update, the government is maintaining strict border surveillance. Authorities are particularly vigilant due to ongoing transmission in the Democratic Republic of Congo and high volumes of cross-border trade and travel. Enhanced screening protocols remain active at Entebbe International Airport and land crossings.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health is actively collaborating with international partners and Nigerian authorities to investigate a reported Ebola case involving a woman who travelled from Uganda to Abuja. Officials are conducting genomic sequencing and reviewing her travel history to determine the origin and nature of the infection.
Baryomunsi urged citizens across the country to remain alert, adhere to public health guidelines, and immediately report any suspicious symptoms to medical professionals. Read more details about this update on The Observer.
