The Ministry of Health has appointed Benard Feni, founder and Chief Executive Officer of Euro Gold Refinery Uganda Ltd and the Mungufeni Foundation, to the Board of Directors of Malaria Free Uganda. His three-year term runs from September 1, 2026, to August 31, 2029.
Health Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi highlighted that Feni’s inclusion recognizes his extensive private-sector expertise and community leadership, which will bolster resource mobilization and strategic partnerships to eradicate the disease. Reacting to the appointment, Feni noted that bridging the gap between businesses and public health initiatives is vital for achieving a malaria-free nation.
As a non-executive director, Feni will provide strategic oversight, strengthen advocacy, and help mobilize domestic resources. Malaria Free Uganda coordinates private-sector participation to support the Ministry of Health, aiming to close critical financing gaps and establish sustainable anti-malaria programs aligned with the National Malaria Strategic Plan.
Uganda continues to face a heavy malaria burden, ranking among the nations with the highest number of global cases according to recent World Health Organization reports. The board convenes quarterly to oversee budgets, resource commitments, and ongoing prevention campaigns.
