Police in Otuke District have launched an investigation following the death of a 15-year-old boy during a chaotic confrontation on Friday evening. The incident took place in Te-Oboke Cell, Oget Ward, Otuke Town Council, amid heightened security operations against local crime.
According to North Kyoga Police Spokesperson Patrick Jimmy Okema, officers intervened to disperse a rowdy group of youth locally known as “Owuwuk.” Authorities stated that the group was allegedly mobilizing to attack members of the public ahead of a busy Saturday market day.
The police action followed growing concerns from local residents regarding a surge in motorcycle thefts and armed robberies across the district. In response, an intelligence-led disruptive operation was mounted on Friday evening around 8:00 pm, commanded by the officer in charge of Otuke Police Station.
During the operation, officers were reportedly confronted by suspects who hurled stones from multiple directions. To control the escalating situation, police fired live bullets into the air to disperse the hostile crowd. Shortly after the clash, reports emerged that a young boy, identified as Denis Okello, had been fatally shot.
Police noted that the precise circumstances surrounding the teenager’s death remain under investigation. The case has been registered under DEF 08/2026, and the body was transferred to Orom Health Centre IV for a post-mortem examination.
The tragic shooting sparked localized unrest, with angry community members briefly attempting to stone Otuke Central Police Station to demand answers regarding the boy’s death.
