Africa continues to occupy a peripheral role within the global capitalist economy, functioning primarily as a supplier of unprocessed raw materials rather than a hub for value-addition and industrial manufacturing. Analysts suggest that while economists and policymakers often correctly diagnose the structural challenges facing the continent, the subsequent policy interventions frequently miss the mark.

At the core of the issue is a reliance on economic models that fail to address domestic production capabilities. Despite abundant natural resources, African nations routinely export raw commodities and import finished goods at much higher costs. This trade dynamic drains local wealth and stifles sustainable job creation for a rapidly growing young workforce.

Experts point out that correcting these trajectories requires more than just standard macroeconomic stabilization. Governments must deliberately foster industrialization, invest in regional trade frameworks under agreements like the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), and support local manufacturing sectors. Without targeted structural transformation, well-intentioned economic diagnoses will continue to yield disappointing policy outcomes.
