Communities across Uganda are grappling with a disturbing surge in violent crime, leaving residents and business owners living in constant anxiety. The growing wave of spontaneous attacks has claimed the lives of several individuals, particularly traders, sparking widespread concern over public safety and accountability.
Public frustration has mounted, with many citizens pointing fingers at security agencies and the government for perceived lapses in crime prevention. Among the most alarming recent incidents is the brutal murder of Rwandan dissident Sgt Maj Robert Kabera. Kabera, who had sought asylum in Uganda, was found beheaded after being attacked by unknown assailants at Luwala Village in Kammengo Sub-county, Mpigi District.
Human Rights Watch has since called for a comprehensive and transparent investigation into the assassination. Relatives and investigators reviewing photographic and video evidence noted that the victim’s naked and decapitated body bore severe injuries, pointing to a violent struggle prior to his death.
Analysts and local residents have attempted to trace the roots of the escalating insecurity. Some community members attribute the spike in criminal activity to recent economic pressures and the enforcement of strict trade order regulations, which they argue have left numerous individuals unemployed and vulnerable to illicit activities.
As security forces face mounting pressure to restore order, citizens continue to demand stronger protection measures and swift justice for the victims of these heinous crimes. For more details on this developing story, read the original report on the Daily Monitor.
