President Yoweri Museveni has made a fresh appeal to European investors to explore lucrative opportunities across Uganda’s infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, and agricultural sectors. Speaking during a high-level meeting at State House Entebbe with European Union ambassadors and business leaders, the President emphasized that bolstering productive sectors is vital for sustainable job creation, market expansion, and regional economic transformation.

Highlighting Africa’s rapidly expanding consumer market, Museveni noted that European businesses stand to gain immensely by partnering with the continent. He encouraged European financial institutions, including the European Investment Bank, to increase financing for strategic infrastructure initiatives like railway development, electricity generation, and major road projects. According to the President, efficient transport networks and reliable, affordable power are critical to lowering production costs and boosting Uganda’s industrial competitiveness.

Museveni also underscored the government’s commitment to supporting industrial expansion through targeted incentives, such as a ten-year tax holiday for eligible manufacturers. He stressed that the administration’s primary focus is centered on job creation and increased production rather than immediate direct taxation, noting that widespread economic activity naturally generates revenue through indirect taxes.

Beyond energy and transport, the Ugandan leader pointed to immense untapped potential in commercial agriculture, agro-processing, irrigation, and fish farming. He called for increased value addition to local raw materials such as maize and soya beans, which can significantly bolster animal-feed manufacturing and improve household incomes. Furthermore, Museveni emphasized the critical importance of balancing industrial development with environmental sustainability, calling for robust investments to protect Uganda’s freshwater resources, forests, and sensitive ecosystems.
