Sports continue to serve as a powerful catalyst for community development across Uganda. In Nwoya District, local leaders and organizers have officially launched the 2026 edition of the youth mini league, designed specifically to tackle prevalent social problems facing the younger generation.
Kicking off on October 17 from Koch Lii Sub-county, the initiative brings together teenagers and young adults through competitive football. Beyond the pitch, the tournament aims to steer youth away from negative peer pressure, substance abuse, and idleness by fostering teamwork, discipline, and community engagement.
Organizers believe that grassroots sports provide a safe and constructive environment where participants can build life skills, discover hidden talents, and foster social cohesion. The mini league has consistently drawn enthusiastic crowds and active participation, proving to be an effective platform for positive behavioral change in the region.
As the tournament progresses, stakeholders hope to expand its reach and secure more support to address broader socio-economic challenges affecting youth development in northern Uganda.
