The remains of the former Busiro South Member of Parliament, Charles Matovu, are set to be laid to rest this Sunday, October 25, 2026. According to the official burial arrangements released by the National Unity Platform (NUP), the final send-off will take place at his ancestral home in Kungu-Lutale along Nakawuka Road.

Matovu passed away on Thursday night at Mulago National Referral Hospital after being transferred from Lubaga Hospital. Party officials reported that the former legislator suffered a sudden health complication on Monday evening, causing his health to deteriorate rapidly.

To honor his legacy, a public tribute was scheduled for Friday afternoon at the NUP headquarters in Makerere-Kavule, Kampala. The gathering provided an opportunity for party members, friends, and well-wishers to pray for his soul and celebrate his dedication to the nation.

A requiem Mass is slated for Saturday, October 24, at St. Bruno Sserunkuuma Catholic Church in Kasenge. This will be followed by an overnight vigil at his Kungu-Lutale residence ahead of Sunday’s burial ceremony.

NUP president Robert Kyagulanyi expressed deep sorrow over the abrupt loss, describing Matovu as a dedicated brother, comrade, and leader. Kyagulanyi noted that Matovu served the people of Busiro South diligently during the 11th Parliament from 2021 to 2026, and was actively pursuing a legal challenge regarding the January 2026 parliamentary election results at the time of his passing.

Born on April 1, 1985, Matovu was an electrical engineer by profession before entering active politics under the NUP ticket.
