The National Unity Platform (NUP) has released a comprehensive funeral schedule for the late former Busiro South Member of Parliament, Charles Matovu. Matovu passed away on Thursday at Mulago National Referral Hospital in Kampala, aged 41, after suffering a sudden medical complication earlier in the week.
According to the official programme shared by NUP, a public tribute event took place at the party headquarters in Makerere-Kavule. This gathering was organized to honor his dedicated service and contributions to the political movement. A requiem Mass is scheduled for Saturday at St Bruno Sserunkuuma Catholic Church in Kasenge, leading into an overnight vigil at his ancestral home.
Matovu will be laid to rest on Sunday at Kungu-Lutale along Nakawuka Road in Wakiso District. NUP leadership, including party president Robert Kyagulanyi and secretary general David Lewis Rubongoya, expressed deep shock and sorrow over his abrupt demise, remembering him as a committed comrade and leader.
Born on April 1, 1985, the trained electrical engineer represented Busiro South during the 11th Parliament from 2021 to 2026. He contested the January parliamentary elections, though the outcome was contested in the High Court in Entebbe through an election petition that remained pending at the time of his passing.
