Residents across the villages of Nsumbi, Kyebando, and Bujjuuko in Wakiso District have taken to the streets to express their deep frustration over the delayed declaration of village chairperson election winners. The protesters argue that repeated postponements and controversial outcomes have left their communities without any recognized leadership, severely hampering daily local administration and essential service delivery.

According to the affected locals, the absence of legitimate village chairpersons has complicated critical administrative processes, including obtaining necessary documentation for deceased family members. Brandishing placards, demonstrators accused electoral authorities of undermining the democratic process and failing to respect the true choices of voters.

Controversy is particularly high in Nsumbi, where residents questioned how a candidate who allegedly garnered only four votes could be declared the winner, while another candidate with 480 votes was seemingly sidelined. Protesters also voiced frustration with Wakiso District Resident District Commissioners, alleging they frustrated monitoring efforts and allowed unrecognized individuals to assume power.

Following earlier polling exercises marred by disorder, gunfire, and tear gas, the residents plan to petition both the President and the Minister of Local Government if the matter is not swiftly rectified. They are urging a transparent review to ensure the final results genuinely reflect the community’s votes.

Electoral Commission spokesperson Julius Muchunguzi confirmed that the commission is well aware of the grievances and is actively examining the situation. He has urged the aggrieved residents to maintain calm while authorities work toward a fair resolution.
