The Rotary Club of Ntinda Metro has initiated a vital road safety campaign designed to safeguard schoolchildren and foster secure commuting environments throughout the Ntinda community. Road traffic accidents continue to claim thousands of lives and cause permanent disabilities across Uganda annually, with pedestrians and boda boda riders making up a large portion of these tragic casualties.
Recognizing the severe impact of these preventable crashes on families and the broader economy, the humanitarian organization has forged partnerships with local educational institutions. The participating schools include Kalimbiri Primary School, Ntinda Primary School, and St. Francis Boarding Primary School.
The newly launched campaign focuses on three core intervention areas to tackle the daily transit risks faced by young learners. First, it delivers direct road safety awareness education to children, teaching them proper pedestrian habits and safe road-crossing techniques. Second, the initiative trains and equips school traffic wardens to enhance supervision near school zones. Finally, it reaches out to local boda boda riders operating around these schools, encouraging them to prioritize caution and protect vulnerable road users.
Organizers hope to spark immediate behavioral changes while cultivating a long-term culture of safety. By uniting parents, local authorities, law enforcement, and motorcycle operators, the campaign ensures that safeguarding children during their daily commutes becomes a shared community obligation.
