President Yoweri Museveni has thrown his weight behind government initiatives to establish a regional trust seal designed to help consumers verify legitimate online merchants and enhance overall confidence in digital trade.
Speaking at the ninth KTA Annual African Technology and Intellectual Property Symposium in Kampala, the President emphasized that a credible verification framework is essential for the growth of e-commerce across borders. His remarks were delivered on his behalf by Attorney General Dr. Sam Mayanja.
According to the President, the proposed trust seal must incorporate transparent verification criteria alongside robust mechanisms for resolving disputes. Furthermore, he noted that the framework needs to remain affordable to ensure that small businesses can easily participate and benefit from the digital economy.
As Uganda continues to expand its digital landscape, the push for stronger consumer protection comes at a critical time. Industry players have pointed out that the rapid growth of digital trade requires elevated standards to safeguard buyers and empower local enterprises to tap into international markets more securely.
