The Lango Paramount Chief, Dr. Eng. Moses Micheal Odongo Okune, has urged Miss Tourism Uganda queens to use their public platforms to advocate for domestic tourism, environmental protection, and positive values among the youth. The cultural leader made these remarks during a homecoming celebration hosted at his residence in Lira City for Harriet Bongonyinge, who serves as Miss Tourism Northern Region and secured the second runner-up position in the Miss Tourism Uganda 2026–2027 pageant.

During the event, Odongo Okune encouraged the beauty queens to actively support community development projects, specifically emphasizing tree planting and local tourism promotion. Furthermore, he advised young women to remain cautious of individuals who might take advantage of their beauty, stressing the importance of making prudent decisions that protect their futures.

As part of their itinerary, the Miss Tourism team toured the City Gate Mixed Farm located in Amuca, Lira City. The four-acre model farm visit provided the queens with insights into modern agricultural techniques, highlighting the growing significance of agro-tourism. The delegation encouraged citizens to look beyond traditional wildlife reserves and national parks, pointing out that working farms offer rewarding recreational and educational experiences.

Gloria Alele, the Cluster Head of Miss Tourism Northern Uganda, noted that beauty ambassadors possess a unique ability to rally communities around environmental campaigns and local development. Demonstrating this commitment, the team participated in a tree-planting initiative aligned with the ‘Let the Pearl Shine’ campaign, which champions proper waste disposal, environmental conservation, and community clean-ups.

Stakeholders during the gathering also appealed for increased government backing for demonstration farms, particularly initiatives focused on modern technologies and irrigation. Pius Olam, the CEO of City Gate Mixed Farm, explained that such agricultural hubs function as vital training centers that teach practical skills and demonstrate efficient land utilization. Ultimately, the engagements underscored how merging tourism with agriculture can significantly boost household incomes, foster innovation, and expand Northern Uganda’s tourism appeal.
