Kampala University Founding Vice-Chancellor Professor Badru Kateregga has highlighted the importance of preserving cultural heritage, emphasizing that diversity is a fundamental pillar for building unity within the academic community.
Professor Kateregga made these remarks during a recent leadership transition event for the Basoga Nsete Students Association held at the university’s Ggaba Main Campus. During the ceremony, Nantale Rachael officially assumed the role of chairperson, succeeding Tenywa George.
Speaking to the gathering, Kateregga stressed that every culture deserves recognition, celebration, and preservation. He encouraged the student body to take pride in their unique cultural identities while simultaneously fostering an environment of cooperation and mutual respect.
Highlighting the institution’s demographics, Kateregga noted that Kampala University hosts learners from more than 30 distinct cultural backgrounds. This rich tapestry transforms the campus into a vibrant hub for cultural exchange, helping students understand and appreciate traditions outside their own.
University leaders point out that embracing diversity within higher education plays a crucial role in shaping well-rounded individuals. Such environments enable young people to challenge prejudices, learn from one another, and champion peaceful coexistence.
The handover ceremony signaled a fresh beginning for the Basoga Nsete Students Association. The incoming leadership team is anticipated to advance the organization’s mission by encouraging active student involvement, championing academic excellence, and preserving vital cultural traditions.
