Ugandan musician and freelance journalist Tonny Lukwago, widely known as Waya Boy, is expanding his professional footprint into digital education. He has officially launched an initiative titled “Verified by Waya” to help entrepreneurs, content creators, and businesses understand how to establish, manage, and protect their online identities.
The initiative addresses a wide range of subjects crucial to the modern digital marketplace, including business registration, branding, intellectual property, online reputation, and the complex rules governing social media platforms, with a particular focus on TikTok. As more businesses rely on digital platforms to market products and reach customers, Lukwago noted that maintaining an online presence requires careful attention to business documentation and platform policies.
Developing from his early experiences building a personal brand as a musician and later assisting friends with their marketing challenges, Lukwago expanded his consultancy work in 2025. This hands-on experience revealed that many entrepreneurs struggle to distinguish between promotional visibility, formal business registration, trademark protection, and tax compliance. Verified by Waya aims to demystify these administrative requirements through accessible educational content.
In addition to his branding and marketing work—which has previously supported clients such as Mirembe Beddings and Curtains, Nsambya Furniture Workshop, and various public figures—Lukwago draws heavily on his background as a freelance journalist. Having contributed to major publications like Nile Post, Daily Monitor, and New Vision, he emphasizes the importance of factual accuracy, evidence, and maintaining clear boundaries between independent editorial coverage and promotional content.
Through this multi-faceted platform, Lukwago hopes to guide users through the intricacies of website development, Wikipedia notability guidelines, and platform-specific algorithms. While the initiative shares his famous moniker, it operates purely as an educational resource rather than an official social media verification service.
