Tragedy struck the Bugweri district in eastern Uganda after a 17-year-old student lost his life in an accidental fall from a mango tree. Moses Mabinda, an S.4 student at Nkutu Memorial Secondary School, met his untimely death shortly after returning home from school.

According to accounts from the family, Mabinda arrived home and exchanged pleasantries with his parents before heading to the backyard to climb a mango tree. While up in the branches, he reportedly slipped and fell face down onto the ground.

At first, his siblings thought he was merely joking or playing around. However, they quickly realized he was unresponsive and experiencing severe breathing difficulties.

Alarmed by his condition, his father, Mukoteka Tenywa, rushed him to Busesa Health Centre IV for urgent medical attention. As his condition rapidly worsened, medical personnel referred him to Iganga General Hospital. Sadly, the young student was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Tenywa remembered his son as an active, healthy boy who always looked after his younger siblings, noting that the family is struggling to cope with the devastating loss.

Busoga East police spokesperson Michael Kasadha confirmed the tragic incident. Authorities transported the body to the Iganga General Hospital mortuary to await a postmortem examination.
