The Salamu Muslim Cemetery Initiative is nearing the operational phase for its new burial site in Sanga, Wakiso District. The project has successfully raised Sh2 billion towards the purchase of a 43.7-acre plot, a significant step since its launch on December 12, 2023.

Despite this achievement, the initiative still needs to secure another Sh600 million to cover the remaining balance of Sh324 million for the land and Sh276 million for estate development fees, bringing the total outstanding amount to approximately Sh2.6 billion. The initiative’s treasurer, Hadijah Nakayiza, expressed gratitude for the contributions received and appealed for continued support to meet these obligations.

The cemetery is slated to commence burial services on November 1, 2026, contingent upon the completion of site preparations. These preparations include land clearing, designating burial zones, establishing access routes, and setting up essential facilities such as water, sanitation, and a record-keeping system.

To ensure organized and dignified burials in line with Islamic traditions, a committee has established burial fees. Adults will be charged Sh150,000, while children under 15 will incur a fee of Sh100,000. These fees are intended to support the provision of burial services and cover the cemetery’s ongoing operational costs. Proper receipts will be issued for all payments to ensure transparency.

Directional signposts have already been installed to guide visitors to the cemetery. The initiative plans to communicate further details regarding burial arrangements and authorized payment channels through its official platforms as the opening date approaches. Community members, religious leaders, and well-wishers are encouraged to contribute to the remaining financial needs of this vital project.
