Following a devastating fire outbreak at Hami Junior School that claimed the lives of two young pupils, Nansana Municipality Member of Parliament Zambali Bulasio Mukasa has stepped forward to demand immediate action from government agencies.

The tragic incident resulted in the deaths of Namusoke Raniya, a Primary One pupil, and Abdul Shakur Bwette, a Primary Three pupil. Addressing Parliament, Mukasa also highlighted another recent destructive blaze at Ivory Hotel, emphasizing that the country must confront the rising frequency of fires.

In response to his submission, Parliament paused to observe a moment of silence in honor of the deceased children. Mukasa stressed that the nation can no longer afford to sit back and watch young lives perish in entirely preventable tragedies.

While acknowledging that the Office of the Prime Minister has offered support to the bereaved families, the legislator insisted that short-term relief is not enough. He called for sustainable, long-term preventative measures across the country.

Mukasa specifically urged the Ministry of Education and Sports, the ministry overseeing disaster preparedness, and the Police Fire and Rescue Services Department to roll out comprehensive inspections. These agencies must rigorously assess whether educational institutions and commercial accommodations comply with established fire safety regulations.
