Christopher Aine, the Deputy Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Hoima, is currently in police custody for questioning following accusations of assault and damaging a mobile phone. The allegations stem from a reported incident involving Henry Byabazaire, a resident of Hoima District.
According to police spokesperson Julius Hakiza, Byabazaire lodged a complaint alleging that Aine assaulted him and damaged his phone on June 9, 2026, at the Hoima District OC-CID office. The incident is understood to be linked to a contentious land dispute in Karubaale Village, Hoima District.
Byabazaire claims he was working on the disputed land with three others when they were arrested by officers from the police land protection unit. He asserts ownership of the land and alleges that influential individuals are attempting to unlawfully acquire it. Byabazaire further states that Aine ordered his arrest and subsequently assaulted him at the police station, during which his phone was damaged.
The police have investigated the initial complaint and submitted the case file for legal advice. After receiving guidance to obtain a statement from the suspect, Aine was brought in for questioning. The file, encompassing the assault and phone damage claims, is expected to be resubmitted to the Resident State Attorney for further legal direction.
Police have urged the public to remain patient as the investigation proceeds. The veracity of the allegations against the Deputy RDC has not yet been independently confirmed, and the specifics of the land size in dispute remain unclear. The investigation is ongoing.
