Pastor Didier Borromee Bitemo Kifoueti, 55, has informed the Kampala City Hall Court that his initial guilty plea in a $600,000 fraud case was made under duress. Kifoueti, who also identifies as a businessman, stated that he and his co-accused did not conspire to steal from the complainant, Ahamed Mossaad Mahmoud Hassan Abouzeid. Instead, he maintains the transaction was a legitimate contract for gold purchase.

Appearing before Senior Magistrate Edgar Karakire, Kifoueti explained that on the day of his initial court appearance, he was unaware he was scheduled for proceedings and felt pressured. He asserted that the complainant had a contract to receive gold from Dubai, complete with a ticket from the seller who was supposedly waiting in that city. Kifoueti questioned the arrest, especially since the alleged seller was in Dubai.

Furthermore, Kifoueti disputed the amount cited by the complainant, noting a discrepancy between the alleged $600,000 paid and the $470,000 specified in the contract, with email evidence to support their claim. He expressed distress over his separation from his family and church in Canada, the confiscation of his phones, and the difficulty in communicating with his legal counsel to prepare a defense.

The prosecution, however, indicated that investigations are complete and requested an early hearing date as the complainant wishes to return to Egypt. The case was adjourned to November 4, 2026, for hearing. Kifoueti is charged alongside Marcel Christian Nyamoutet and Hassan Katende, accused of obtaining $600,000 by falsely pretending to sell 50 kilograms of gold and conspiracy to commit a felony between January and February 2026. The complainant reportedly met Nyamoutet, who introduced him to Kifoueti as a seller’s representative, leading to a signed agreement and subsequent payments.
