Nicholas Male, a 27-year-old statistician, has been handed an 18-month prison sentence for multiple counts of forgery and uttering false documents. The court heard that Male created and presented forged letters purportedly originating from President Yoweri Museveni and the Office of the Prime Minister.

Appearing before Buganda Road Chief Magistrate’s Court, Male pleaded guilty to all seven charges. This guilty plea, made as part of a plea-bargain agreement with the prosecution, was a significant factor in the sentencing. The court also took into consideration that Male is a first-time offender, highlighting his youth and potential for reform.

The case underscores the seriousness with which the authorities treat the forgery of official documents, particularly those bearing the names of high-ranking government officials. The fabrication of such correspondence can have significant implications, potentially misleading government offices and individuals.

Male’s conviction serves as a stark reminder of the legal consequences for actions involving document forgery and the dissemination of false information within governmental systems. His jail term began following the court’s decision on October 20, 2026.
