The trial into the assassination of former Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Andrew Felix Kaweesi, who was killed in March 2017 alongside his bodyguard and driver, has recommenced in Kampala.
During the current proceedings at the International Crimes Division (ICD) of the High Court, investigators from the Government Analytical Laboratory and Defence Intelligence and Security presented key forensic evidence.
On Monday, the prosecution formally tendered 47 cartridge cases and a single projectile into court. These items are expected to play a crucial role in establishing the facts of the case as the trial continues throughout the week.
The court is set to hear testimonies from these forensic experts as part of its commitment to a thorough investigation. The trial, which is scheduled to run until Friday, October 23, 2026, aims to bring clarity and justice for the slain police official and his companions.
This development comes after extensive investigations and several legal proceedings involving numerous suspects. The case has seen its share of challenges, including the ongoing efforts to locate a suspect who has been evading court appearances.
The presentation of this physical evidence marks a significant stage in the protracted legal battle to hold those responsible for Kaweesi’s death accountable.
