Tragedy struck the Kampala-Gulu highway on Sunday when a severe collision between two trucks resulted in the death of one driver and serious injuries to two others. The incident occurred around midday in Nkondo village, Nnyimbwa Sub-county, within the Luwero district.
The deceased has been identified as Denis Ssegujja, who was operating a Sino truck (registration UBJ 314L) laden with sand. Police preliminary findings suggest that Ssegujja’s truck experienced a tyre blowout while traveling from Gulu towards Kampala. The failure reportedly caused the truck to burst four tyres, leading Ssegujja to lose control.
In the ensuing chaos, the Sino truck veered into the path of an oncoming Mitsubishi Fuso box-body truck (registration UA 283 DJ). The impact of the collision was significant, pushing the Fuso off the roadway where it subsequently overturned into a nearby maize field.
Emergency services, including traffic police, were dispatched to the scene. The two injured individuals, whose identities remain unconfirmed, were promptly transported to Bombo General Military Hospital for medical attention. Ssegujja’s body was conveyed to Luwero General Hospital for a postmortem examination.
Authorities have secured the wreckage of both vehicles and towed them to the Bombo Police Parking Yard for detailed inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles. The Savannah Region police spokesperson, Sam Twiineamazima, stated that investigations are actively underway to determine the precise circumstances that led to this devastating crash.
