Parliament has commenced a significant four-day staff verification and validation exercise aimed at ensuring the authenticity of employee qualifications and recruitment processes. This initiative, which began on Monday, October 19, 2026, is being overseen by the Public Service Commission and was launched by Speaker Jacob Marksons Oboth-Oboth.
Parliamentary Commissioners Susan Jolly Abeja and John Baptist Nambeshe confirmed that the exercise will conclude on Thursday, October 22. All staff members are required to present themselves according to a departmental schedule, with non-compliance potentially leading to disciplinary action. The commissioners stressed that the validation is intended to reinforce professionalism and integrity, not to target individuals.
“This is not a witch-hunt. The process is intended to strengthen professionalism and integrity in the institution of Parliament. If your papers are genuine and your recruitment was proper, you have nothing to fear,” stated Nambeshe. The decision to involve the Public Service Commission was to ensure an independent and impartial review, minimizing the risk of internal interference.
The exercise will meticulously examine academic documents, recruitment procedures, and the suitability of qualifications for the roles held by employees. This comes at a time when public institutions are facing increased scrutiny regarding recruitment practices and accountability measures. The findings are expected to guide the Parliamentary Commission in addressing any discrepancies identified in staff records.
The schedule for the verification exercise is organized by department: Monday saw the Office of the Speaker and related departments reporting, Tuesday focuses on Finance and Administration, Wednesday on Legislative and Research Services, and Thursday on the Sergeant-at-Arms and Budget Office. The outcome of this process is anticipated to bolster confidence in the Parliamentary Service and restore ‘sanity’ as called for by proponents of greater transparency.
