Kiira Region police have made a significant dent in motorcycle theft by recovering 30 suspected stolen bikes and arresting three alleged ringleaders. The operation, which took place between October 14 and 17, 2026, was an intelligence-led initiative aimed at dismantling criminal networks operating in Buyengo Sub-county and Buyengo Town Council.
According to Kiira Regional Police spokesperson James Mubi, the crackdown is part of ongoing efforts to enhance security across the region. Mubi highlighted that the success of this operation was largely due to effective intelligence gathering, the active vigilance of the community, and strong coordination between various security agencies.
This recent bust follows similar successful operations in September, where police recovered 12 motorcycles and brought 19 suspects to court in areas like Buwenge, Butagaya, and Kagoma. Police leadership emphasized that these actions are crucial for restoring public trust and creating a more secure environment conducive to business operations.
The operation was conducted under the direction of Kakira Division Police Commander SP Tai Ramathan and is in line with a broader community policing strategy championed by Kiira Regional Police Commander SSP Charles Nsaba. This strategy encourages commanders to foster stronger local policing through proactive engagement with residents and a commitment to human rights-based approaches.
Police are urging residents in Jinja City, Jinja District, and nearby areas who believe their motorcycles might be among those recovered to visit the Kakira Police Station. They are advised to bring valid proof of ownership for verification and to facilitate the retrieval of their property.
