A devastating road crash occurred on Sunday, October 18, in Nkondo Village, Nyimbwa Sub-county, along the Gulu-Kampala Highway. The incident claimed the life of Denis Ssegujja, the driver of a Sino truck loaded with sand.

According to Savannah Regional Police spokesperson ASP Sam Twiineamazima, the accident involved Ssegujja’s Sino truck (registration UBJ 314L) and a Mitsubishi Fuso box-body truck (registration UA 283 DJ) that was transporting wheat flour.

Preliminary reports suggest that the Sino truck, traveling from Gulu towards Kampala, suffered a catastrophic tyre failure, reportedly bursting all four tyres. This led to the driver losing control of the vehicle, which then veered into the path of the oncoming Mitsubishi Fuso.

The forceful impact sent the flour truck skidding off the road, where it overturned into a nearby maize garden. Two occupants of the Mitsubishi Fuso sustained serious injuries.

Emergency services transported the injured individuals to Bombo General Military Hospital for urgent medical attention. Ssegujja’s body was moved to Luweero General Hospital for a postmortem examination.

Both trucks have been impounded and taken to Bombo Police Parking Yard for inspection by the Inspectorate of Vehicles. Police are continuing their investigation to ascertain the precise cause of the tyre failure and the subsequent collision.
