A Lira City businessman, identified as Ambrose Okot, 42, and a Lira City school inspector, Tom Ronald Omara, 45, are facing serious charges at Kampala’s City Hall Court. The two men stand accused of obtaining over Shs4 million through various fraudulent schemes, including false pretences, conspiracy to commit a felony, and personation.

The alleged incidents, which reportedly occurred in June 2026, involve a series of transactions where the accused are said to have promised favourable outcomes for financial gain.

According to the charge sheet presented by the prosecution, Okot is individually accused of soliciting Shs500,000 from Sammy Bob Okino. This money was allegedly given in exchange for Okot’s promise to resolve issues related to inflated student numbers at Lango College, a claim he made at the Mulago Cancer Institute.

Further allegations against Okot include obtaining Shs1.5 million from Moses Ayindi in Ntinda. This sum was reportedly given for the facilitation of a relative’s transfer. In a separate instance, Okot is also charged with personation, having allegedly posed as a legal officer from the Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) to defraud Leonard Omara.

In a joint operation, Okot and Omara are accused of defrauding Leonard Omara of Shs2 million in Lira City. They allegedly promised to arrange for private candidates at Olaka Child Care Primary School to be registered under the Universal Primary Education (UPE) program, a claim the prosecution asserts was intended to deceive.

The prosecution maintains that the actions of both individuals were aimed at defrauding the complainants. Details regarding pleas, bail, and specific court orders have not yet been released. The accused are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
