The Mufti of Uganda, Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje, has emphasized the importance of embracing digital technology for Muslim leaders, urging them to leverage new tools for improved communication, research, and overall service delivery within the community.
This initiative saw the Uganda Muslim Supreme Council (UMSC) distribute Android tablets to leaders from the East and West Buganda Muslim Regions. The move is a key component of the UMSC’s Ten-Year Strategic Development Plan, aimed at modernizing the institution’s functions.
During the handover ceremony, Sheikh Mubaje highlighted that the tablets would empower leaders to perform their duties more effectively. Enhanced access to information and stronger coordination across the council’s administrative structures are expected benefits.
“We urge you to put them to proper use in order to strengthen communication, do more research and store all kinds of data and other useful information,” stated Sheikh Mubaje, underscoring the devices’ potential for record-keeping and information dissemination.
The recipients included key figures such as Regional Assistants to the Mufti, regional secretaries, members of the Majlis Al-Ulama, representatives from the Shura and Advisory Councils, and district Kadhis from the two regions. They were encouraged to use the devices responsibly for research, maintaining institutional records, and facilitating information exchange between the UMSC headquarters and local leadership.
This distribution is part of a wider effort by the UMSC to promote digital literacy and bolster communication networks within its organizational framework. UMSC Secretary General, Hadji Abbas Muluubya Ssekyanzi, described the ongoing reforms as unprecedented and called for teamwork, commitment, and innovation from the leaders to achieve the council’s development agenda. He also stressed the need for collective responsibility in improving administrative efficiency and service delivery to Muslims nationwide.
