Leaders and business owners in Mityana Municipality have voiced strong concerns regarding the persistent and frequent power outages plaguing the area. John Kasazi, Mayor of Mityana Central Division, highlighted how these interruptions are severely impacting traders and residents who rely on a stable electricity supply for their livelihoods and daily activities.

Kasazi also raised alarms about public safety, noting that prolonged darkness increases the risk of theft and other security threats. He implored UEDCL officials to implement immediate measures to stabilize and improve the electricity supply.

“Frequent power outages are affecting the normal functioning of businesses and other activities in our community. We need a lasting solution to ensure that residents and traders can carry out their work without unnecessary interruptions,” Kasazi stated.

Traders echoed these sentiments, reporting substantial financial losses due to the unreliable power. Nuriat Nabukenya, a local trader, emphasized the need for improved services and better communication from the electricity distributor regarding the causes of these outages.

Gilbert Tibihwayo, the UEDCL branch manager in Mityana, acknowledged the challenges the company has been facing in maintaining a consistent power supply. He assured that efforts are underway to resolve the issues and enhance service reliability, though specific details about the problems or solutions were not provided.

Local authorities are pressing UEDCL to prioritize these concerns, emphasizing that a dependable power supply is crucial for economic growth and public safety in Mityana Municipality. Residents and traders are hopeful for a swift resolution to the ongoing power interruptions.
