At St Andrew’s Mbalala Primary School in Mukono District, a unique approach to leadership is on display. Headteacher Rose Nabusimba, 50, consistently wears the same green skirt and white blouse uniform as her female students.

This distinctive dress code has become her signature, making her easily identifiable by students, parents, and colleagues. However, Ms. Nabusimba explains that this choice is more than just a visual statement; it’s a deliberate strategy to create a more approachable and comfortable environment for the children.

By sharing in the students’ daily attire, she hopes to bridge the gap between educators and learners. This fosters a sense of unity and encourages students to feel more at ease when interacting with their teachers and school administration. The aim is to build stronger relationships, making students feel more supported and understood within the school community.

Ms. Nabusimba believes this method can lead to improved student engagement and a more positive overall school atmosphere, where students feel a greater sense of belonging. The policy, while unconventional, has been met with appreciation from those within the school community who witness its impact.
