Gulu City is grappling with a fresh wave of fear and unrest following the violent death of John Bosco Ngire, a second-year student at Gulu University. Ngire, who was pursuing a degree in Education and Humanities, was tragically attacked and killed by unidentified assailants in the early hours of Saturday, October 10th.
The incident occurred in the Agwee area, within the Laroo-Pece Division of Gulu City. The university’s Public Relations Officer, Mr. James Onono Ojok, confirmed the tragic event, highlighting the growing concern among students and staff regarding their safety.
This murder comes as a chilling reminder of insecurity, occurring just a month after another female student from the Faculty of Biosystems Engineering was reportedly attacked. The recurring nature of these violent incidents has fueled anxiety and prompted widespread condemnation from the student body, who are demanding urgent action from authorities to bring the perpetrators to justice and ensure campus safety.
The Gulu University administration has expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Ngire and is working closely with local law enforcement to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death. Students are calling for increased security measures and a thorough investigation to prevent further tragedies and restore confidence in the safety of the community.
