Born Again pastors in Uganda’s Central Region are seeking President Yoweri Museveni’s assistance in acquiring tractors to bolster their agricultural initiatives. The religious leaders have formally requested at least 20 tractors, aiming to equip churches as hubs for agricultural production, value addition, and youth employment.

During the 3rd Annual Revival Crusade and Conference held in Wakiso District, Dr. Leonard Sserwadda, who leads the churches’ development efforts, articulated the vision. He emphasized that these agricultural programs, facilitated by modern machinery, could ensure food security and improve family incomes, thereby contributing to national transformation.

Bishop Thomson Enock Byamugisha, representing churches in Makindye-Ssabagabo, further elaborated on the need. He stated that the tractors would empower pastors to train the youth in contemporary commercial farming techniques, improve livestock pasture production, and promote climate-smart agriculture, such as irrigation, to combat unpredictable weather.

Bishop Byamugisha also used the occasion to petition the President, through the Minister of Lands, Housing, and Urban Development, Ms. Judith Nabakooba, to facilitate a meeting with religious leaders. The aim is to discuss the inclusion of Born Again Christians in various government development programs, including the Parish Development Model (PDM) and Emyooga, from which they feel excluded.

Minister Nabakooba delivered President Museveni’s address, urging the faithful to transition from subsistence farming to commercial ventures. The President highlighted commercial agriculture, services, industry, and ICT as key sectors for job creation and wealth generation, noting the government’s investments in infrastructure and security to support businesses.

The conference, which also celebrated 40 years of peace in Uganda, brought together religious leaders for spiritual and professional development. The organizers stressed the importance of teamwork and unity in serving God and humanity.
