Uganda Police Deny Any Imminent Cadet Recruitment

The Uganda Police Force has officially dismissed reports circulating about an upcoming cadet recruitment drive, stating that no official vacancies have been advertised. This clarification comes as the force's most recent regular intake has just completed its training. Source: https://nilepost.co.ug/news/377363/police-dismiss-report-of-imminent-cadet-recruitment

The Uganda Police Force has strongly refuted claims of an impending recruitment exercise for cadets. Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke clarified at a press briefing that no advertisements for cadet positions have been issued, nor has the force expressed any intention to recruit at this time.

“I want to categorically make it clear that the Uganda Police is not going to recruit any cadets,” Rusoke stated. He emphasized that any genuine recruitment process in the force is always preceded by an official advertisement, a step that has not yet been taken for cadets.

This official denial follows a report by New Vision that had apparently sparked expectations among aspiring applicants regarding a potential recruitment drive. Rusoke advised the public to disregard such rumors.

The force recently concluded the training of its latest batch of Probationary Police Constables (PPC). The recruitment for this group began with an advertisement on March 10, 2025, attracting 41,378 applications. After a rigorous selection process, 11,896 candidates were chosen for an 11-month training course, which commenced on August 1, 2025, and concluded in June 2026.

A total of 9,952 probationary constables graduated from this intake, with a significant number trained at the Ikafe Police Training School in Yumbe District. This regular recruitment should not be confused with the separate, temporary recruitment of 100,000 Election Special Police Constables in October 2025 for a three-month contract to assist during the general elections.

While the Inspector General of Police, Abas Byakagaba, has previously highlighted a need to recruit approximately 3,000 officers annually over the next five years to address staffing gaps, this projection does not constitute an announcement for an immediate recruitment exercise. The public is urged to rely on official police communications for accurate recruitment information.
