The annual Clash of the Titans golf tournament, a concept conceived by former students of Namilyango College (Ngo), has crowned a new champion. For the first time in its history, Ngo emerged victorious, edging out strong contenders St. Mary’s College Kisubi (Smack) by a narrow eight-point margin.
This year’s event saw a record participation with 21 schools competing, a significant expansion from the initial three-school idea. Over 264 golfers teed off at the Entebbe Club for the final leg of the competition. Ngo achieved a total of 684 points across two legs, with their performance in the challenging Entebbe course securing their maiden win.
Ngo’s captain, Milton Edimu, expressed his delight, highlighting the team’s consistent effort and the standout performances from players like Dr. Richard Mucunguzi, who contributed significantly to their point tally. Henry Nsubuga was noted for his unwavering consistency throughout the tournament.
Defending champions Ntare School secured the third position with 666 points. In the ladies’ category, Gayaza High School also claimed their first title, ending a two-year reign by Bweranyangi. King’s College Budo took home the award for best-dressed school.
The tournament, sponsored by Hima Cement and supported by various other partners including I&M Bank and Kenya Airways, continues to foster camaraderie and friendly competition among alumni of different educational institutions. The event celebrated not just the sport but also the strong bonds formed through shared school history.
